COVID – 19 – Return to Practice – Information for Patients.

 

UPDATE ON RE-OPENING

Dear Patient,

We hope you; your family and friends are fit and well.  We would like to keep you updated following the government announcement on the 28th May 2020, in which they advised that Dental Practices may re-open from the 8th June 2020.

We are incredibly pleased and relieved to announce that we will indeed be re-opening Chiswick Park Dental & Facial practice on the 8th June 2020 in a phased return to practice.  This means that we will be open on the 8th to take phones calls and speak to you directly about appointments, please do not visit the practice, we will contact you about your rescheduled, cancelled or emergency appointments.

As we have had to cancel numerous appointments since lockdown began, we may initially prioritise patients with dental emergencies or appointments to be rescheduled.

We would prefer you refrain from attending the practice unless you have an appointment.

At Chiswick Park Dental Practice, our biggest priority is your safety, comfort and wellbeing and the safety of our dental team.   We have spent the time during the closure upgrading and introducing additional measures to keep you and our staff safe.

We pride ourselves on maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and safety.  Due to the recent pandemic, we have reviewed our processes and introduced additional measures for your health and safety.

Additional COVID -19 Measures.

  • All members of our team will be risk-assessed every morning before they start their shifts. They will adhere to wearing the required PPE in the designated zoned areas, and be responsible for ensuring that patients and the dental team respect personal distancing regulations.
  • We will conduct COVID-19 Pre-screening measures for patients
  • Additional hand sanitisers are now available at entry and exit points.
  • Increased disinfection and protection cleaning will be performed between each patient.
  • Paper literature will no longer be kept in the waiting room
  • All touch points will be disinfected /protected regularly, including handles and the POS card machine.
  • Contactless payments, electronic bank transfers and emailed forms will be encouraged.
  • Social distancing measures, and a reception security screen have been implemented.
  • We will have reduced number of patients in the practice and waiting area, to limit contact with other patients.
  • We may ask you to wait in your car or outside or call you as soon as we know that the appointment before you may be delayed, to ensure that you are not in the waiting area with the previous patient.
  • PPE for patients will be provided.
  • We are creating clinics to shield patients who are most vulnerable, to ensure their additional safety.
  • Please take a comfort break prior to attending your appointment as we will limit the use of our facilities.

We would like to take this opportunity to hope that you, your family and friends continue to be safe and healthy during this extremely difficult time and unsettling time.

Due to the current unprecedented circumstances and the spread of COVID 19 it is with regret that I have had to take the unfortunate decision to temporarily close the practice, our priority is your safety and wellbeing and the health and safety of our staff. Therefore, following governments instructions and guidelines, we have temporarily closed the practice until further notice. Our team has worked with you and your family for many years and your safety is always our paramount concern especially within our practice environment.

If you have an urgent dental emergency or need advice then please contact our telephone triage service on 020 89879977, alternatively you may also contact us via email mail@chiswickparkdentalpractice.co.uk. Our on-call dentist will have access to your medical history and dental records and will be able to assess your concerns quickly and thoroughly over the phone.

Children’s Treatment Centres:

*Paediatric Dental Emergencies – call NHS 111 who will provide you with a telephone number if the triage nurse feels you should visit the hospital between 9am -12 noon Monday – Friday.

COVID-19 Update

Dear Patients

Firstly, we want to say we sincerely hope you; your friends and family are healthy during these potentially stressful and uncertain time.

The practice will remain open and we will continue to treat our patients as normal unless we receive direct instructions from our governing bodies or central government to close.   Should we receive instructions to close we have set up the practice remotely where you will still be able to speak with a member of the reception team, schedule and rearrange appointments, we will have on call Dentists for routine, emergency and acute pain treatments, simply call the practice as normal  020 8987 9977, we will be able to assist you. In the event of a lockdown we will be operating a 9am-5pm Monday – Friday service remotely. Alternatively you may wish to continue to contact us via email on mail@chiswickparkdentalpractice.co.uk .

A health crisis like the COVID-19 outbreak presents unexpected and unprecedented challenges for us all but would like to assure you as your healthcare provider that you will continue to be safe in our environment carrying our your dental treatments as normal, our cross infection and decontamination and sterilisation processes continue to remain at the highest standard possible.

Please be reassured that at ALL times, this practice has performed and continues to work within the Universal Precaution Guidelines.   We are also taking extra precautions based on NHS, GDC BDA, recommendations to ensure your additional safety, the safety of other patients and our staff whilst attending your dental appointment especially when dealing with and potential risks from COVID-19.

We are doing everything we can to avoid reducing practice hours as the Covid-19 impacts upon every community. We will remain open unless otherwise instructed by the Government as we would want to limit the extra burden that would be placed on the NHS for receiving dental patients as well.

During this outbreak, we ask that you keep your appointments. If you cannot, please let us know in advance so we can reschedule you and have our team help other patients who may require an appointment.

We routinely carry out infection control procedures, however the Extra measures we have put in place as listed below but NOT Limited to:

  • Our infection prevention control, decontamination and sterilisation continue to remain at the highest level and after every patient the instruments, room, equipment, patient glasses and chairs are thoroughly disinfected and sterilised. Clinical masks, gloves and patient bibs and cups are clinically disposed of and fresh equipment and instruments are prepared for the next patient.
  • Our common areas are thoroughly wiped down and disinfected, multiple times a day.
  • All of our common area doors are being left open to minimize the constant touching of handles.  We do sanitise the front door handles and the reception desk.
  • We are limiting our direct patient contact by our non-clinical staff, and our treating staff have extra protective equipment that are being used for your safety and protection and the protection of the clinical team treating you during your appointment.
  • Our frequently shared items, such as pens, tissue boxes, business cards, credit card machines, seating areas are thoroughly wiped down and disinfected. All Magazines and children’s books have been removed along with patient information leaflets, the bathroom is regularly checked disinfected and deep cleaned by our team.
  • The drinking water we provide for patients will no longer be available.
  • The practice, as always, will continue to be deep cleaned throughout and on an ongoing basis.
  • We have placed extra hand sanitizer pumps around the practice and encourage all patients and staff to use it often, as well as washing your hands thoroughly before entering the treatment rooms.
  • We aim to have no more than two patients in our waiting area at one time and ask our patients to exercise social distancing from our staff on the reception desk and other patients in our waiting area.

IMPORTANT: If you or any other member or your household have tested positive for COVID-19 or think you may have been infected or you have been in self-Isolation, please contact us in advance, please do not visit the practice. We may then instruct you on how to proceed and we are better able to safeguard you, other patients and the staff and continue to keep the practice safe for everyone.

Dental anxiety? We can help with safe sedation

Does the thought of going to the dentist fill you with dread? You’re not alone – nearly half of UK adults have a fear of the dentist, with 12% of these suffering from extreme dental anxiety. If you’ve been putting off necessary treatment because of dental phobia, read on to find out about sedation at Chiswick Park Dental & Facial.

4 HygieneDo I need dental sedation?

If you haven’t been to the dentist for a while, you may be pleasantly surprised. Gone are the days of stark waiting rooms, stern dentists, and intimidating-looking equipment. At Chiswick Park Dental & Facial, all our dentists, nurses, and hygiene staff understand the importance of putting patients at ease to alleviate anxiety and calm nerves. We take time to ensure that each and every one of our patients feels comfortable in our care before we begin any form of treatment. If you are worried about sitting in the dentist’s chair, we recommend making an appointment to stop by the practice and chat with our experienced team. You may find that a gentle introductory approach and using some of the anti-anxiety tips that we can suggest is enough to reassure you without the need for medical sedation. For extremely nervous patients, we can discuss safe sedation. Sedation may also be an option for patients who:

  • Are unable to sit still in the dentist’s chair.
  • Have a very low tolerance for pain or discomfort.
  • Require a large amount of dental work.
  • Have very sensitive teeth.

How does sedation work?

While you are under sedation you will feel deeply relaxed, but still be able to understand and respond to requests from the dentist. Patients under sedation are usually unaware of what is happening and will have little or no memory of the procedure afterwards.

Is dental sedation safe?

Yes, our dentists are qualified at delivering dental sedation and will ensure that you are comfortable and safe throughout the procedure. The level of sedation is well below that of general anaesthesia.

How long will I be under sedation?

This will depend on the type of procedure you are having. We will discuss what to expect before your treatment, but you should anticipate a 15-20-minute recovery period after the procedure is finished. Most patients are able to return to work the day after treatment, but you should expect to feel drowsy for a few hours immediately following your appointment. For this reason, you’ll need someone to drive you to and from the practice on the day of your appointment.

Are there alternatives to sedation?

If you are unable to have dental sedation (for example, if you are pregnant or nursing), we can discuss alternative options, including anti-anxiety relaxation techniques or local anaesthetic alone.
