Our patients can have complete confidence that the teeth whitening treatment they receive will be of the highest quality, using only the best materials and equipment. If you wish to consider teeth whitening treatment as part of your bespoke care plan, your dentist will take the time to discuss the process, assess your suitability for teeth whitening and answer any questions you may have.
Some patients are only looking to go a couple of shades whiter, however others will want a dazzling ‘Hollywood’ smile; our experienced team will be able to predict how much of a difference the treatment will be able to make, based on our assessment of your teeth.
The process begins with taking an impression of your teeth using dental putty, which will be used to produce your custom-made teeth whitening trays. After 5-10 days, when the trays have been made, you will be invited to return to the practice so we can fit them and explain exactly how you can carry out the whitening process in the comfort of your own home.
This will include how to apply the professional whitening gel and the timings required to achieve your desired results. For some patients this will mean wearing the trays overnight, for others, one or two hours will be sufficient.
Although some patients experience no discomfort at all during the whitening process, it is normal to feel some sporadic sensitivity either during initial treatment or within the next 48 hours. We will make every effort to help minimise any discomfort you feel, including supplying specialist products to help you cope with any temporary sensitivity.
We do advise that patients avoid any hot or cold food or drinks within those first 48 hours after treatment. It is also important to remember that the whitening process will not have any effect on the colour of crowns, veneers or fillings, however your dentist can discuss changing the colour of these to match your whitened smile as part of your treatment plan.
